ELEMENTARY

First to Sixth Grade

Kingwood Montessori’s elementary programs are a continuation of the philosophy and principles of Montessori set in the Early-Childhood classroom.  Children still enjoy opportunities for mutual assistance which is joyfully given and received. Co-operative social interaction among children of different ages engenders feelings of friendship, respect for the rights of others, and self-confidence. They are encouraged to achieve their full potential in all subject areas including; language, mathematics, science, history, geography, art, computer, music, peace & service, physical education and Spanish. Our elementary curriculum satisfies the standards set for the American Montessori Society and The State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR™).

We conduct testing annually using the Stanford Achievement Test Series 10; it is the standard of excellence for the accurate assessment of students nationally who attend private schools.  At Kingwood Montessori, students from first grade upwards take this test to ensure that we are maintaining the highest standards possible. Results of these tests are available to students and parents in the May of each year.

Elementary School at Kingwood Montessori School

At Kingwood Montessori School, we strive to create an environment where children thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. Our elementary school program, serving students from first to sixth grade, builds on the foundation established in the early childhood years. Guided by Montessori principles, we foster a love of learning, critical thinking, and independence in every child.

A Comprehensive and Enriching Curriculum

Our elementary school program offers a broad curriculum designed to ignite curiosity and encourage holistic development. With a focus on individualized learning, we ensure that students reach their full potential in all subject areas:

  • Language: Developing reading, writing, and communication skills.

  • Mathematics: Building strong problem-solving abilities and logical thinking.

  • Science: Exploring the natural world through hands-on experiments.

  • History and Geography: Understanding cultures, civilizations, and global interconnectedness.

  • Art and Music: Encouraging creativity and self-expression.

  • Technology: Integrating computers and modern tools to enhance learning.

  • Physical Education: Promoting health, teamwork, and physical development.

  • Spanish: Fostering bilingual communication skills.

This well-rounded approach ensures that children gain the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in their academic journey and beyond.

The Montessori Approach to Elementary Education

Our elementary school program continues the Montessori tradition of mixed-age classrooms, allowing children to learn collaboratively and support one another. This unique structure:

  • Encourages mentorship, with older students assisting younger peers.

  • Promotes social interaction, fostering respect and empathy.

  • Allows children to progress at their own pace, ensuring they master concepts before moving forward.

With a focus on hands-on learning, students actively engage in problem-solving and critical thinking, making connections between subjects and real-world applications.

Excellence in Assessment and Standards

Kingwood Montessori School meets the rigorous standards of the American Montessori Society and aligns with the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR™). Additionally, students from first grade onwards participate in the Stanford Achievement Test Series 10, a benchmark for private school excellence nationwide.

These assessments ensure that our students maintain high academic standards while allowing parents to track their child’s progress. Results are shared annually in May.

Building Independence and Confidence

Our elementary school program strongly emphasizes nurturing independence and self-confidence. Students are encouraged to take ownership of their learning by setting goals, managing their time, and exploring topics that interest them deeply. Through this process, they develop critical life skills such as responsibility, collaboration, and resilience.

Social and Emotional Growth

Montessori education is rooted in respect for the individual and the community. At Kingwood Montessori, students learn to:

  • Resolve conflicts peacefully.

  • Appreciate diverse perspectives and cultures.

  • Work collaboratively while respecting the rights and needs of others.

These experiences help students build meaningful relationships and become compassionate global citizens.

Beyond Worksheets: Where Elementary Kids Learn to Think for Themselves

When kids enter the first through sixth grades, something major shifts. They stop asking "what" everything is and start asking "why" and "how." They want to understand how the world connects, how cultures form, and where they fit into the bigger picture.

At Kingwood Montessori School, we do not waste these high-energy intellectual years on endless worksheets, memorization, or forcing children to sit quietly at identical desks all day. Instead, our elementary community gives your child the space to think deeply, test out big ideas, and take true ownership of their daily education.

An Expanding World of Subjects

Our students dive into a comprehensive curriculum designed to stretch their minds while honoring their personal learning speed. Because our mixed-age classrooms naturally support individual progress, children can master complex math concepts or advanced reading skills without feeling rushed or held back by a rigid group lesson plan.

  • Core Academic Depth: We weave language arts and advanced mathematics together with deep dives into history, geography, and hands-on science experiments.

  • A Creative, Global View: Our weekly rhythm incorporates art, music, physical health, technology, and conversational Spanish, giving kids diverse outlets for self-expression.

  • The Power of Mixed Ages: With first through sixth graders sharing environments, older students naturally step into mentorship roles, while younger kids feel inspired by what their older peers can achieve.

  • Real Life Success Tools: Children learn to manage their own schedules, track their projects, and resolve social conflicts through open, peaceful communication.

Meeting High Standards and Tracking Real Progress

Parents often wonder if a non-traditional environment can keep up with standard milestones. We explicitly balance our child-led exploration with proven educational tracking to ensure your child stays on an excellent path.

Our curriculum aligns directly with the standards of the American Montessori Society and the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR™). To maintain national benchmarks, our students from first grade upward participate in the Stanford Achievement Test Series 10 every spring. This gives us clear, objective data on how well our kids are thriving compared to private school students across the country, with final results shared directly with families every May.

Answers to Common Questions

How do your elementary grade levels split up?

Our elementary programs span from first grade through sixth grade, separating into lower and upper classrooms to give kids proper social and academic environments.

Do your students take standardized exams?

Yes. Every spring, students from the first grade up take the national Stanford Achievement Test Series 10 to ensure they meet high private school benchmarks.

How do you handle different learning speeds?

Because our lessons are individualized, children progress as they master concepts. A student can fly ahead in math while taking extra time to perfect writing.

Do you teach foreign languages?

Yes. We integrate Spanish directly into our standard elementary curriculum, helping children build strong, bilingual communication skills and a broader appreciation for different global cultures.
